Hello there,

I don't know if anyone is still watching my account but I'm back to DA again. It's been a few crazy years and I think drawing is like meditation for me.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows of good RPG groups that are active? Both open and closed group? Some of the groups I followed before my hiatus were either no longer active or disappeared.

Thanks!!!!!

Step 24

Lol...I seriously laughed out loud when I see this so I thought I should share it with you guys.

The Government is right to say we should not trust everything we read online.
(1)Go to Google Maps.
(2) Go to "Get Directions".
(3) Type 'Taiwan' as thestart location.
(4) Type 'China' as the end location.
(5)... Read STEP 24 of the directions.
(6) IF YOU Laugh, then repost.

I just have to share it with you guys.
I study films and we just have these wonderful lectures about the core of storytelling. I bet all of you guys who are here on DA in one way or another, want to tell something. After all, art is a storytelling and we are all storytellers. We just use different medium. It can be paintings, 3D, photographs, sculptures, music, animation or films. It doesn't matter. We all have something we want to say.

However, sometimes we lose ourselves in this pool of commercial ideas like an epic battle with fantasy warriors and super heroes flying in to save the day that we lose the true passion for telling a story. I'm talking about art that resonates in us even after we have watched/viewed/listened it. The point is...if you want somebody to feel connected to your art, what's better then telling/showing them what you ACTUALLY KNOW? Yes...I love fantasy theme but I doubt not many of us actually see a real Superman flying around with his cape and muscles and nor do I. It doesn't have to be an exactly replica of the experience but you can transfer the theme such as seeing a brave man, dashing into a fire to rescue somebody can be an inspirational for a super hero movie.

What makes it work is making something personal into something so universal that everyone can relate to so it can resonates in them on a personal level. We all have different definition for everything. Some people claim being homosexuals as sins and some don't. I define a romantic relationship different from my sister, my friends and you guys. If you don't know how it feels to be blind, can you actually express it well enough for people who have experienced it? Yes and no. If you do some research and know what other emotions that can used to "substitute" for example: you know the feeling of being vulnerable, being scared...or maybe just the experience of other disabilities. But if you don't do the right thing...and just stick with what you think others will think. I bet you will more likely to fail.

Yes...there are a lot of inspiring stories out there that make you go: wow....things like that don't happen. No...actually if you just look at the people around you like your friends, your relatives, your neighbors or your assistants, you will be surprised how you can find so many REMARKABLE STORIES out of what is happening around you. What you need is right in your backyard. All you need to do is dig in deeper and pull out as much information as you need. We have this exercise in class to find somebody we think is remarkable in our life and tell the story to the class. Oh man...I'm surprised at how many potential great movies can be made just from those stories. They range from some friend who save many lives of people to just close people like your mom and dad who have such awesome characteristics that can easily be developed into memorable characters. I look through the stories that my parents told me about their lives when they were young and I'm surprised at how many great movies ideas just from their lives and heck, I don't have to look very far.

Okay...I know not many people want to do movies here since a majority of you draw and paint. Let's apply this to comics. I'm not gonna flame anyone. This is my own opinion. How many people are fed up with typical shoujo manga? How the main character is usually a plain, stupid girl who somehow, miraculously gets the love of this perfect guy? And usually the main girl when dressed up turned out to be a shining gem? *raised hand*

Okay. I don't draw comic. I would love to but my skills are not that great yet. I've been reading a lot of comics made by amateur artists. Some are shockingly amazing. Some are just @____@ "not another one" type. What I often see is that many people love shounen-ai/shoujo-ai/yaoi/yuri theme. I don't have a problem with this theme. I love all of Kaori Yuki works and I adore the way she portrays the love between guys. I know those who have drawn comics about this SA/Y-I theme love them with all of their hearts but...I'm really curious about whether you guys truly experience or witness this love happening? I doubt all the artists are gay themselves. You guys probably say that you have friends who are gay and stuff. Okay...that's fine. But do  you really know how they feel? What they have to go through? What they truly have to go through? I know homosexuals are controversial. Some welcome them with open hearts, some just shut the door close. The thing is...what exactly about these relationships that make you feel passionate for? What makes me irritate it a lot of people portray this love theme in a very artificial, conventional way of how people perceived it. Just in case you don't know, your lack of experience and knowledge show really clearly in the story no matter how beautiful you can draw.

This applied to small details as well. I remembered seeing a comic strips about people playing tennis. The story is not the main focus but the way the artist drew these people hold the tennis rackets are just completely wrong. So I made a comment about it and I told her/him about the correct way to hold the rackets. I just simply gave her the accurate information since I played tennis for years. Guess what I got back from her/him? The artist seemed to be offended by my comment and accused me for being too picky. Heck...if you want to tell somebody something, you better make it believable. Not only it shows your lack of knowledge about the subject you are talking about but it also shows that you don't respect the audience. You can't just write a story about India if you know nothing about it. You can't just draw a painting of a Hindu god when you knows nothing about them. You can't just draw a cat and tell everybody that it's a leopard. That is why it PISSES ME OFF when people draw a character playing a VIOLIN and I can tell whether that person did any research before because 7/10 will draw the character playing the instrument in a freaking WRONG posture like the bow is not at the right position. The arms are not at the right posture .etc. You know what? People who knows how to play the violin WILL LAUGH AT YOU. THEY WILL LOOK DOWN ON YOU. I'm mad when some people draw Vietnamese traditional dress: Ao Dai that looks 3/4 like a Chinese dress.

If you are passionate about something to the point that you want to tell EVERYBODY your point of view. The chances are that you will leave some kind of impact in others. It's something you know of and it's YOUR PERSPECTIVE: how you want to portray the subject matter.

Now...take a look at your gallery or your works and pick out a few pieces that you are so proud of them that you want to show everybody. Pick them... then remembered your feeling and emotions when you created them. What is the message you want to tell at that time? Did it come out well? Why and how? Please share them with me.

To be honest, all of my recent works are pretty commercials. I just want to practice my skills rather than actually drawing something I want to draw. I took a look at my gallery. Most of the works that I'm proud of are not all great in terms of skills. Some are just simple doodling I did on Tegaki.

crossiel.deviantart.com/art/Co… - Connected: I put this up on my front page. I'm not particularly proud of this because half of it is done because I basically just satisfied the need to practice drawing more than 1 character on a same canvas and some western clothes. What I like about it is MY POINT OF VIEW, MY PERCEPTION about love, the word "connected" and about how people often described the feeling of love as being "electrified."

crossiel.deviantart.com/art/Lo… - Love and War: another conventional fanart for APH. I'm proud of this because I was very much inspired by the music at the time I was drawing it. Everytime I see this piece, I can feel the emotions I've put in when I listened to the song. It's how I expressed the songs.

crossiel.deviantart.com/art/my… - My sinful side: probably one of favorite. Not only because I was able to challenge myself to paint lineless art with SKELETON and THROBBING HEART, I also satisfied my goth-side without any gruesome as well as how I see our dark sides in this Halloween theme.

crossiel.deviantart.com/art/Wh… - When my Love spills: If you read the artist's description, you will know that it is how I see the overly protective/possessive relationship.

crossiel.deviantart.com/art/Na… - Narcissus Love only yourself Interesting enough, this is a doodle. Not even a plan out painting but it represents the statement I wanna say about people who are so much in love with themselves and sometimes, it's a sad thing when they can't get out of that even when they want to. It's very much inspired by a story I read about a narcissus who meets a machosist.

crossiel.deviantart.com/art/Bu… - Butterflies in the stomach I just want to portray the feeling I always get when I'm nervous. I put this idea in an essay and my instructor told me not to include this "gruesome image."

crossiel.deviantart.com/art/Th… - The only limit Pretty much how I think.

crossiel.deviantart.com/art/Si… - Silent dissolve Inspired by the little mermaid but the feeling I used when doodling this when the feeling of liking somebody and doesn't have the courage to tell that person. Then one day it's too late to say anything. Personal experience.

crossiel.deviantart.com/art/Ha… - Happiness and sadness most people think it's the best one in my gallery. I think so too. guess what? It's from my own personal experience in seeing how sad I am when the person I like found his happiness.

I'm sorry if it's a long journal but I hope you guys read through it and let me know some of the pieces in your gallery that you're MOST proud of and tell me why?
